We had a slow start to the morning and Jana joined us at
about just before 10am when Damien and I made our way to the local for a quick
drink before the trip. We got into town a bought a few beers and water and
hired the snorkel equipment. We then jumped on the boat and made our way along
the coast of the island that faces the mainland.

Our first stop was in a little bay where we could jump out
and swim and snorkel. The most exciting part to me was that I was going to use
my waterproof camera! There weren’t many fish to see in the water but we had
great fun taking shots of each other underwater. After stopping there for an
hour we then made our way back towards Abraao stopping at a few beaches along
the way. At one beach there was a church that was built in the 1840’s and the
area used to be used as a trading point for sugar cane, coffee and various
other items that were grown on the island.

We then stopped on another beach for a late lunch (Damien
and I were surviving on a liquid diet of beer at this point). We decided to go
for the per kg buffet which had an assortment of meats, salads and starches. As
can be expected we ate much more than necessary. Once back on the boat we had
some beer for desert and were on our way back to Abraao.

We made our way back to our local where Jana finally joined
us in a beer. After a while she made her way to the shop to get some food and
back to the hostel while Damien and I continued to enjoy the rest of the
evening at the local. While sitting there Mark and Phil (the other guys from
our not so Easy Transfer from Rio) walked along the beach and ended up joining
us for a few beers. At 11pm our stomachs got the better of us and we made our
way to find a restaurant where we struggled to find a place that was still
serving food. We managed to find a place and enjoyed a seafood stew called “the
big kettle”. As always we ate too much and enjoyed the walk back to the hostel
for an early night.
