I
enjoyed some breakfast and coffee before resubmitting my tax documents to SARS,
which I was expecting, before booking my bus. I also killed some time before
packing my bag and going to buy some bus munchies. It's been a while since I
have got those.

Just
as I was about to sit down and get on the internet to do some more research the
bus came to pick me up. It was 30 minutes early but fortunately I haven't lost
my punctuality even after being in South America for so long. I grabbed my bag
and joined Saadia and Carl (two New Yorkers I met on my first day in Oaxaca) in
the mini bus. We went to the minibus office where we picked up some more
passengers (all locals) and we're pushed to the back of the bus with no leg
room. Fortunately I had the middle seat so was able to stretch my legs down the
isle.

The
minibus option was much cheaper than the 1st class bus that I had seen and also
quicker. The 2nd class bus option was a little cheaper but left later in the
afternoon so this seemed like the best option.

We
made our way out the city and over some tree covered hills and were soon
winding our way up the mountains. The driver had a very heavy food (as do most)
therefore we were thrown from side to side when taking corners. This made it
difficult to sleep but somehow we managed.

While
climbing the mountains we passed through little villages of a few houses
selling food and basics to passersby. Where we stopped to grab some lunch
(chorizo and cheese quesadilla) I watched them warm the quesadilla on a shaped
rock that was being heated by a fire underneath it.

After
the quick stop we were being thrown around the bus again and were eventually in
Puerto Escondido. We said our farewells and I went in search of my hostel
(Villa Mango). It wasn't far so I decided to walk even though it was rather
humid.

I
walked around and stopped in at a shop to ask for directions. While the guy
Googled for me I felt the ground move a little and then everything on his walls
was shaking. He got a little scared and was waiting for more of the earthquake
but it was over. I saw where to go and headed off back the way I came and found
my hostel.

I
was greeted by the owner as I walked in and was immediately given some Mezcal
to enjoy. We enjoyed a few more before getting some food and beer and called it
a night early.
