We
arrived at the bus station much earlier than I expected and it was like an
airport. All modern and shiny but everything was closed. I grabbed a cab with a
New Zealand couple I met on the bus and we drive through a massive traffic jam
before 6am. Once we got closer we realised it's a fresh fish market and there
were cars and taxis with massive fish fixed to their roof and almost hanging
down to the road.

Once
past the jam we dropped the New Zealand couple off and then he dropped me off.

Unfortunately
my hostel wasn't open yet so I found a spot on the beach where I watched the
waves and the coast reveal themselves as the sun rose behind me and the full
moon set around the corner. Needless to say that my munchie bag definitely came
in handy.

After
an hour or so I went back to the hostel and managed to leave my bag in storage
while I caught up on some reading in the hammock... Yes, i also ended up
catching up on some sleep! I woke up cooking in the midday sun so made my way
to my bags and took them to my room before taking a walk along the beach. Being
Easter weekend it was packed. Not the quiet tranquil sight I saw earlier but
the best thing is that it's not full of tourists.

Although
it's busy, Huanchaco has a relaxed and chilled beach town feel to it. Almost
like betties but more built up. I am seriously thinking of staying here a few
weeks but let's see if I can get that to work for me. It may also help that I'm
staying in a quiet hostel for a change. I'm not sure that I will meet that many
people but may be the downtime I need.

After
some lunch and a walk around town I made my way back to the hostel and my
hammock with a book. It was getting a little cold in the afternoon breeze so
moved to the chair where I continued to read and enjoy the sunset. I was then
chatting to the hostel manager (Paul) and some of the people staying there over
a few beers before walking along the beach front and finding some dinner.

While
walking I noticed a big procession ahead on the "main" Road to
celebrate Easter weekend (semana santa). Back at the hostel I had a quick
shower before we headed out to the biggest club in Trujillo called AMA,
needless to say I was rather surprised when we pulled up at a shopping mall and
it was inside.

We
were still early so went to a bodega and grabbed a beer which we drank on the
side of the road before making our way back to the mall where we managed to get
in for free and get a free bottle of whisky. It was pretty dead inside but we
kept the whisky flowing and in no time the place was filling up nicely. I was
actually rather surprised at how big the place was.

The
DJ was playing salsa music with a mix of dance music every now and then but we
were the only gringos in the place and the locals were loving it and throwing
their hips all over!

We
eventually got home at about 5 after another long cab ride home...
