I
was awake early due to the heat where I finished off packing and grabbed some
breakfast before taking a walk to the bus terminal. I didn't have to wait long
before I was on a nice air-conditioned bus and able to catch some more sleep.

The
bus took us right to the archaeological site so I left my backpack in the
luggage storage, got my ticket and made my way to see my first Myan ruins. The
first building that I saw was the main pyramid and my jaw dropped. I slowly
walked towards it as the pyramid was revealed through the trees. When I got it
in full view I was able to cut out all the people around me and just marvel at
the structures all around me. I tried to comprehend how old they are but it's
just not possible to think that they were able to build these structures in
such detail.

I
walked around the site and tried to take it all in before finding a bench under
a tree where I just enjoyed the structures. I then took a quick walk to get a
view from another angle before making my way to the exit to catch my bus to
Playa del Carmen.

While
waiting for the bus I sat and ate my sarmie and was very surprised to find a
new friend sitting about an arms length away from me. It was an iguana. He was
not very fussed by me and all the people around and I think he was hoping that
I would share some of my food with him. After I didn't give him any he moved on
and I chatted to people as they passed.

When
my bus arrived I opened the hatch and popped my bag in. It was a little
difficult as the door wouldn't stay open on its own so I had to support it and
throw my bag in at the same time. Once on board I enjoyed the bit of aircon and
inevitably caught up on some sleep.

Once
in Playa del Carmen I took a walk to my hostel and rehydrated with a few beers
before taking a walk along the beach which was covered in seaweed. Apparently
this happens at this time of year but isn't normally as bad as this. On my way
to look for some food on the strip I bumped into Joyce and we caught up while
she walked to her hostel. I then found some food and returned to my hostel for
more beer.

At
the hostel I had a few beers and met a few people and before I knew it we were
wondering the streets with locals, going to a Mezcal bar, going to a terrace
bar, dancing salsa in the street to a mariachi band and going to a local club
to continue the salsa. It was a great night and was capped off with post
dancing tacos before heading home at about 6.
