The
repellent didn't work very well. I kept waking up with mozzies buzzing around.
I hate to think of how many times I was bitten but it was also the heat that
made it so hard to sleep.
When
I got up I had some breakfast before returning to the sun bed manufacturing
line with Joel. We spent a couple of hours on this before calling it a day and
went for a swim to cool off and clean off all the dust.
It
was an almuerzo at the hotel kind of day so made our way there for a nice big
lunch before heading back to the cabañas where I continued planning my next few
days. Before I knew it Damien suggested a week in Miami for my birthday and it
was difficult to say no. I quickly did some flight price checking and booked my
flight from Quito to Mexico City and another flight from Cancun to Miami. Now I
just need to figure out the return leg.
My
plan is to make my way from Mexico City to Cancun over about 2 and a half weeks
and meet up with Rowan for a few days there before I head to Miami. After Miami
my plan is to either return to Mexico and do some of the North before heading
to Cuba or do Cuba first. At least now I have a plan and since the flights are
paid for I am unlikely to change it.
It
really does feel strange having a plan for the next few weeks after having so
little plan for such a long time. I celebrated this plan with some beer before
we made our way to Meier's for dinner.
It
was a bit of a farewell party as Joel, Pedro, Izzy and I are all leaving in the
next few days. Luckily we were the only table there so the food didn't take
that long. We enjoyed some beers with the gringos that we had met during our
stay to say our farewells and then Freddy and Tarzan arrived (2 of the
builders).
After
the gringos left we sat drinking with them for a while before we all jumped on
the back of Freddy's bakkie and went for a drive on the beach and made our way
back to the virgin. Here we drank some more and went for a midnight ocean swim.
After
the swim we headed back to the cabañas where I called it a night while the
others enjoyed a few more drinks. It was strange going to bed early but after a
sleepless night the night before I needed it.
