We
got an early start and enjoyed some toasted ham and cheese sarmies for
breakfast (nice change from the bread and jam) while Rebecca did some planning
with wifi I went out to find some flash drives to exchange and backup pics. On
the way I bumped into Tai and Krista who had just arrived but were unable to
have much of a chat as they were late for their walking tour.

I
got the flash drives and made my way back to the hostel where we checked out,
filled my hip flask and then we got walking to the bus station. Fortunately we
knew where we were going so we got the metro instead which was much quicker and
easier than walking all that way with our bags.

The
queues were crazy but at least they moved relatively quickly and we finally got
our tickets to Valparaiso for the next bus (only 20min wait). On the bus we
fell asleep before it even left and woke up while driving through wine farms.
Landscape is very different to Stellenbosch as the hills are more jaggered and
not as rolling.

Between
wine farms there was some land with shrubs and not many trees and it looked
very dry. As we got closer to Valparaiso there were more and more trees and
eventually no more shrubs but still looked very dry.

My
first impression of Valparaiso was that it's run down. There were lots of
broken building that need paint job and signs falling down. As we walked to our
hostel we found fruit and veg market where we got some bananas and
strawberries.

On
the way to the hostel we stopped in a doorway where we dipped the fresh fruit
into some dulce de leche which was delicious. We walked some more and got to
the hostel where we checked in and enjoyed some more wifi.

While
doing more research we enjoyed the whisky from my hipflask before taking a walk
around town where we met some locals. We chatted to them for a while before
chasing the sun and enjoying some more whisky along the way.

When
the sun set we went back to the hostel to put on some warmer clothes and had
some more whisky before making our way to a sushi place. The food was great and
was very reasonable.

After
dinner we returned to the hostel for some more whisky before we called it a
night.
