We had arranged for a tax to take us to Varadero so got up early and had another casa breakfast before getting into the cab. We joined 4 Brazilians in the cab who were kind enough to juggle the seating around as there was no space in the back for Liz and I to sit. I managed to get the seat to myself which allowed me to lay down a little and not constantly hit my head on the roof of the car.

Along the way we pulled off the main road into some bushes where there was a house. We were all very confused as to what the stop was for but soon realised we had stopped for some fuel. Once we were on our way again I picked up my book and read for most of the way and managed to finish another book.

In Varadero we got the taxi to drop us off at one that I had heard. They had no space so we knocked on a few doors before we found one that had space for the night. Once we settled in we took a walk to the bus station to get some tickets to Havana. Liz will finally get to try a Cuban bus! We then made our way to the beach where we grabbed some beach food and an ice cream.

The beach was long and went on as far as the eye could see. We found some shade and a lounger where we left our things and made our way for a swim. Back at the loungers I started a new book (Mr Mercedes). We enjoyed the afternoon lazing there before making our way to the water to catch the sunset. Unfortunately there was too much cloud so we returned to the casa for a shower before we went in search of some dinner. We enjoyed some more seafood before walking around a bit to find a bar with some music. We didn’t have any luck so we returned to the casa for whisky (which is now finished), a cigar and more chats.
